It’s one of those life lessons. We tell our children, “Never, never touch the top of the stove. It can get very, very hot.” However, inevitably it happens–once. Last night Ryan burned the tips of two fingers on the stove top. He put his hand under cold running water immediately. While the burn was quite painful, he will be fine.

Why am I blogging about this routine lesson learned? Because of Ryan’s amazingly compassionate response. As he soaked his hand in cold water he remarked, “I wish this didn’t happen to me, but I’m really glad it didn’t happen to Drew!”
Ryan, you are only five. I can’t wait to see the young man you will grow up to be some day.

Most Children Do it Once…

Poor Ry! Did Jay tell him about the time he stuck his arm under boiling water in the sauna? That was a bad one!
Ryan is such a wonderful young man. You all must be doing something right to raise such a compassionate soul.
