This is the day we learned we are privileged to be associated with what is possibly the best DME company in the country. We awoke unsure how we would charge Drew’s feeding pump. Once we contacted PHS we learned that there was a representative who would drive–from over two hours away–to our condo to deliver the part that we had inadvertently left at the waterpark yesterday. Luckily that turned out to be unnecessary as we were able to retrieve the missing piece. PHS, you are the best!

There is a small zoo about an hour from our resort. Drew loves the larger animals and Ryan loves to feed the animals in the petting zoo. Drew, always cautious, chooses not to feed the animals, but enjoys watching Ryan. Karli loved the bunnies.




The day included a trip to Walmart/McDonalds and lots of time in the pool.

After a leisurely morning, the Draz Fam had lunch at DQ. We ordered an ice cream cake for Friday, as we’ll be celebrating Drew’s seventh birthday.

In the afternoon the Draz kids played with Ben in the kiddie pool for almost an hour. None of the other kids in the rec center played with Ben. You see, Ben is a ten year old with Downs Syndrome, and had speech and behavior that was different than was most kids were used to. Without prompting, Karli played with ball with Ben and told him about her ‘shoes ON,’ while Drew and Ryan shared their Super Hero McDonalds toys. To the Draz kids, Ben wasn’t different; he was just the same as everyone in a different way. There may be some heartache with SMA but there are also gifts, and we experience the gifts daily. Today’s gift was watching three kids play and laugh with a child who was different without asking any questions.

The notable event of the evening was when Karli went down the big tube slide all by herself.

So far it’s been a wonderful week. As we anticipate Drew’s birthday I suspect the best is yet to come.
